As of yesterday the Kaiser Foundation is now covering transgender procedures for transgender women. It’s interesting because they were already offering similar surgeries for transgender men.
Seems to have been a case of the left hand not knowing what the right was doing.
For complaints Americans sometimes have about government, in this case it was government – in the form of the local insurance commissioner – who untangled the kerfuffle.
“People who are transgender should not be barred from medical treatments because of their gender identity,” the commissioner said. “I’m glad the companies ultimately did the right thing to ensure they are treating their transgender enrollees fairly.”
So are we.
