Trans-attracted Men Who “Bottom” Are A-OK. (And, They’re Not Gay) [Guest Post]

Bernard Hermant INSTA2

[We received this letter from Jae, a recent new follower of our work. He sent this letter to us. We thought is good enough to share. Enjoy! P]

I’m writing in response to a heated exchange that I witnessed on FB the other day. I was unable to comment because I’m not “friends” with either of the people that were really going at it.

The topic was whether or not a man who receives anal from his trans woman partner diminishes his masculinity.

I was pretty surprised to see that this is still an issue, quite honestly.

One man appeared to be pretty absolutist on the topic, saying that any man willing to receive anal from his trans woman partner is in effect compromising his “manhood.”

There was another man who rebutted him saying that this was not the case at all. The two really went at it, yet the other still held his ground on the topic.

Quite frankly, I think this topic is outdated. It’s as outdated as questioning a transamorous man’s sexual orientation and resorting to societal labeling as “gay” or “bi-sexual.”

I am of the opinion that it is all about sexual tastes. Whether or not a man elects to receive anal from his trans partner should not define their level of masculinity.

I consider myself exceptionally fortunate that my circle of friends is pretty eclectic. I have hetero friends, gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and trans (both m2f and f2m) and I love and respect them all equally. I can attest that there are plenty of gay men who identify as “bottoms” in their sexual expression, yet are just as masculine as any alpha male, UFC fighter, NFL defensive end, etc.

You get the idea.

To question the “manhood” of a masculine gay man because he identifies as a bottom would definitely not have a good outcome, and could even result in a few missing teeth.

Either that, or the counter arguments would get drowned out from the waves of deafening laughter in the room from the gay, hetero, bi, and trans people who are informed and mature enough to realize that sexuality cannot be restricted to neat little outdated categories, which only promote homophobia.

Chris Johnson WHAT STORIES HORIZ

The same could be the case with a man who is involved with a trans woman and takes the “bottom” role in their intimate expression.

Conversely, there are some trans women who identify as tops and yet, they are the epitome of feminine grace.

The problem is, there are so many men who have yet to outgrow the narrow-minded thought process of defining a man’s masculinity by their sexual expression. They are so hindered by archaic labels and roles that society continues to rely on, and the danger is that it naturally feeds right into homophobia.

I would hope that in the long run, the only thing that matters is that two consenting adults have been drawn together to savor the beauty of intimate time together physically and emotionally. In our case, it’s that a man has come to grips with his attraction to the inner and outer beauty of trans women.

Why does it matter what sexual tastes that they have anyway?

It amazes me that there are men who profess an attraction to trans women, yet resort to the same homophobic judgmental practices as to measure other men’s masculinity based on the sexual attentiveness that they share with their trans partners.

I wonder if this same population of self-proclaimed transamorous men who judge in this way, take something else into consideration. And that is: perhaps the men who are open-minded enough to receive anal are doing so in the spirit of mutual attentiveness and thus reciprocate the pleasure experienced with their transgender partners.

I think that men who find themselves attracted to trans women should also come to the realization that not every trans woman is okay with being the only one who receives anal intercourse. That there are some who may want to find enjoyment in making love to their male partners.

There’s nothing cookie cutter-ish about sexuality.

Men, for whom receiving anal is not a part of their sexual expression, can find trans women who prefer to receive anal only, and it brings them both to the heights of pleasure. And men who are open to giving and receiving anal as a part of their sexual expression can find “versatile” trans women who enjoy both roles. And again, it works for both people, providing a fulfilling experience.

That’s the beauty of it.

There’s someone out there for everyone and when the right connection is made, the awesomeness of that connection is immeasurable.

So it’s my hope that the infighting will cease among transamorous men in regards to questioning another man’s masculinity because of their receptivity to please their trans women partners in this way.

If anything, I even would go as far as to say that in doing so, these men in question are likely more secure in their masculinity than the men who are criticizing them.

Now isn’t that just wildly ironic?

All my very best to the awesome community of transamorous men and transgender women!

You want more trans people playing trans characters? Then celebrate those who are

Nicole Maines

It’s now widely reported that Nicole Maines this week landed a major role on CW channel’s “Supergirl” television show. She’ll be playing what I think may be the worlds first transgender superhero in a television series.

I think this is fabulous and is one more example of trans roles going to trans people.

More of this is coming.

Here’s a tip for us all in the transgender community. It’s a powerful one and I hope you take it to heart since you’re reading this: If folks in the trans community could focus on outcomes like these, instead of focusing on the absence of outcomes like these, there would be a LOT more outcomes like these leading to the complete portrayal of trans people on film BY trans people.

I know some people are going to now write and dispute this with things like the need to be activist, call out evil or wrong doing when you see it and such. And I’ll patiently respond to those who are cordial about their resistance.

But to be honest, nothing is inaccurate about that tip. It works every time in every case, whether you believe it or not.

Of course it doesn’t really matter what people in the trans community do or not do, because in time, most if not all trans characters portrayed on film will eventually be portrayed by transgender people. Just as it has turned out that way for Native Americans, Asian people and African Americans.

But the speed with which this inevitability will become our collective reality would be so much faster, if we stopped focusing so much on what’s wrong and focus more exclusively on what’s going right.

You’re going to love your love life

Xavier Sotomayor looking in the past never works.jpgWe know. It’s hard to love your love life when your love life seems absent, because you have no one to love in your life.

But that’s just the past staring you in the face.

Yes, that’s right. Your present moment that includes you NOT having a partner is the past. We can explain why that is, but it would make this post way to long. Instead, just take our world for it.

You’re creating your reality by what you put your attention on. So when you look at the past, whether you like what you see or not, you put more of what you’re looking at in the future for you to experience in future nows.

What does that mean? Put simply, when you complain about not having someone to love, you’re putting your focus on you not having someone to love. So your future moments have a very high probability of looking just like that moment in which you’re complaining.

That complaint is a story.

You have a lot of other stories going on all of which collaborate to create your now. So if you want to have a now that looks different from the ones you’ve always/already have, you have to start looking somewhere else for the love of your life. You have to stop doing what you’re doing (complaining) and start doing something different.

We suggest you start praising. Find every thing to love about your current situation. If you can do that consistently, you’ll notice some interesting things happening:

  1. You’ll feel better
  2. You’ll eventually forget about not having a lover
  3. That relief will open new possibilities because you won’t be focused on what you don’t want
  4. In the relief you feel, you’ll find yourself increasingly happy
  5. And if you’re paying attention, you’ll see signs of the lover you’ve been wanting coming to you.

Of course, step five there means you have to know what to look for. That’s another story. One we talk about in our Guides.

One way or another, you’re going to love your love life. We suggest you do that sooner than later. Life is much more fun that way.

Scarlett Johansson Gives Up Trans Role

Black Widow

It’s being reported that Scarlett Johansson has chosen to no longer participate in the new film where she would play a transgender character.

In a revised statement, released today, the actress says:

In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project. Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive. I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues … While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film.

We figured things would work out in this matter. Too much momentum has already been generated moving trans performers to center stage. As we reported just moments ago, with Cassandra James landing a spot on General Hospital, with Alexandra Billings performing wonderfully as a judge on Goliath with the show Pose moving to its second season, the season of trans actors is at hand.

Scarlett is no idiot.

We love seeing things going positively in all directions. Being on the right side of history always feels better. Of course, the right side in this case is yielding such roles to those more apt to play them. Scarlett also isn’t struggling. With so many roles under her belt and with being the highest paid actress from 2014 – 2016, she certainly doesn’t need the money.

That said, there’s news that her decision was intentionally made to save her iconic role as Black Widow. At the time of this writing, Forbes is saying:

Even if we give Johansson the benefit of the doubt that she merely saw the true-life crime melodrama (think American Made) as a juicy role about a “tough woman” who assumed a male identity to succeed in a male-dominated arena, the outcry has been fast and furious: Tokyo drift. Speaking of Tokyo Drift, couple this with the controversy over her playing the lead in last year’s Ghost in the Shell adaptation, where she technically played a Japanese woman whose mind and soul were transported into the body of a white lady, and I imagine the actress decided it wasn’t worth it. There was little chance of Johansson scoring awards consideration or even much acclaim unless the movie turned out to be a stone-cold masterpiece. Even then, it would be hounded by the controversy which would have become the prime narrative around the otherwise run-of-the-mill studio programmer which would need positive media attention to survive alongside the tentpoles. Whether it would have made any money is an open question (Dallas Buyers Club, with a huge Oscar boost, earned $55m worldwide on a $5m budget in 2013/2014), but it wasn’t worth the possibility of doing PR-related damage to the Black Widow movie.

Frankly, we don’t care why she ditched the role. It was the right move.

Hollywood trans snubbing…is it over?

Despite a lot of hubbub about transgender characters not being represented in film some are making it quite nicely in Hollywood thank you very much.

Now, before anyone sends hate mail our way, NOTE THAT WE ALWAYS focus on the positive here at The Transamorous Network because, we know, when you aren’t focusing on the positive YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM NOT THE SOLUTION.

Focusing on the problem seems like the way to go because it agitates and gives the activists something to do while the natural progression of “it’s always getting better” takes care of….making things better. We love a recent tweet we saw (today actually) that speaks volumes:

So when you’re fighting against some injustice, you’re just causing more of that injustice to happen. Just like if you push against someone, they dig in their heels.

So we are super-stoked to give massive props and congrats to Canadian Actress Cassandra James for her role playing a trans character in the iconic and legendary Soap Opera General Hospital. It’s a massive accomplishment and we are eager for her to represent the community is a positive way. We also are eager to see even more good trans actors and actresses get Hollywood roles in the future.

In the meantime, Cassandra is in good company. In our Facebook Live Show IN YOUR FACE, we noted Alexandra Billings playing the role of a judge in the Amazon series Goliath alongside Billy Bob Thornton. A convincing portrayal, we must add (way to go Alexandra. You nailed the role). What’s particularly of note here is Alexandra’s status as a transperson played no part in her character’s role. That’s nice, because we recently were talking about transgender people playing straight roles or at least roles where their transness is irrelevant.  To see Alexandra playing a judge (a major part of the show) was refreshing.

So, despite what people are compalining about, there is progress being made. There is always room to go, of course. There is forever room to grow. That’s what makes life the thrilling ride that it is.

But to claim that no progress is being made is only participating in the problem. Not acknowledging the progress evident. We know if everyone focused their energies on what’s going right – in every aspect of life – we wouldn’t have the polarized society we have in America, including the rancor we see between cis and trans, but we also know that variety/diversity is the spice of life. And that diversity includes diversity of life experience.

Way to go humanity!
